Those who have "moved on"

Peris (16) lost both parents and was found living on the streets of Nairobi.  Unable to succeed in the classroom at Bright Star, she was enrolled in a tailoring school and was living with distant relatives.  Peris recently gave birth to a baby boy so plans for her future have to wait a while.

Kennedy (21) has no parents.  He had been living with an older brother in the slum until this brother, a thief, was beaten to death by the police after a robbery.  Kennedy lived with us until he turned 18 at which time George and Anndora Laflin provided funds for Kennedy to build a place of his own in the slum.  He finished driving/ auto mechanics school but could not find a job.  The Laflin's provided money for Kennedy to start a business selling cereals, rice, beans, and charcoal as well as shoelaces donated by Steve Currens.

Phoebe (19) lost her parents many years ago and was one of the first girls to live in our girls' dormitory.  She finished hair styling training school and is now living with distant relatives.  She was given the money necessary to buy her hairstyling tools so she can become self-supporting.

Onesmus
Onesmus (21) lost his father when he was 5 years old and his mother is unemployed.  Onesmus has completed driving/auto mechanics training thanks to the generosity of Kim and Mary B. Frey, his sponsors.  He has found temporary employment and hopes to be self-sufficient soon. He supports his sister Judy, a day-schooler at Bright Star.
